Understanding Health and Wellness beyond the trends.

The wellness industry has reached new heights as the general public becomes more aware of their health and the factors that influence it. However, this industry is becoming noisy. There is a lot of conflicting information and marketing hype that is clouding the consumer. What do these health trends and tech actually do? Why do people care about them? Where did they originate? And what is practical to implement into your life. Is it really worth your time, money, and attention?

What the Well explores today’s biggest wellness trends - where they came from, their rise in popularity, and what actually works. I'll unpack what’s real versus marketing, with approachable science, and take a closer look at the brands making waves.

Our mission is to empower people to navigate the wellness space with clarity and confidence — by unpacking the science, history, and systems behind modern health trends in a way that’s accessible, thoughtful, and practical. Leaving YOU with a better understanding and tools to increase your agency of taking your health and wellness into your own hands.

About Brittany

Hello friends! I’m Brittany a biomedical engineer, coach, and consultant here to help you better understand the health and wellness industry!

I always knew whatever I did for my career I wanted to accomplish two things: 1. Help people, and 2. Never stop learning! I wrestled in high school and college between wanting to be an engineer or a doctor, so I picked the hybrid - Biomedical Engineering. I was also crazy and took all the pre-med classes *just in case* I wanted to go to medical school. For my undergraduate degree I did Biological Systems Engineering at Michigan State University - focusing on how the ecosystem, food system, and our body as a system all interact and connect. On top of that I did a million extracurriculars: President of Engineers Without Borders, ran a project in Tanzania, Africa, Marketing Lead for the Biomedical Engineering Society, tutored, and waitressed… Life was not easy, but I would do it all over again.

My further education did not take me to med school, because I was disheartened by how our medical system focuses on reactive care over preventative care. SO instead I decided to do a masters degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan with hopes of being able to do something that contributes to prevention of diseases/health complications. I also worked in two research labs: One studying “lab on a chip” models for dormant breast cancer cells and the other an immunology and cell separation start-up in the Cell and Gene Therapy Manufacturing space. I did a Precision Medicine Certification (extra classes in preventative/predictive/personalized medicine and AI in healthcare).

I worked at the Cell & Gene Therapy/Immunology company for 4.5 years, helping bring new tech to the market - inventing and testing new products. And now I work for a consulting firm that deals in the manufacturing/operations/supply chain space.

I say all of this NOT TO BRAG. Trust me if I could turn off that part of my brain that is extremely passionate and inquisitive it would save me some headaches, but I’m trying to use it to my advantage and your advantage too!

I recently went on a health and fitness journey, lost 25lbs, started consistently strength training and eating right. Through this journey I’ve done a lot of research - keeping up with the trends in this space. I was able to lose 15lbs on my own and now work with a health coach myself, to help me push through the last bit of recomposition (switching muscle for fat). Given my background I believe I have a unique perspective for the health and wellness industry that I’m so excited to share with you. I am able to see how our environment, health, manufacturing, supply chains, regulatory, and more, all interconnect. I’m pretty good at learning and love teaching, so I figured why not combine all these passions into helping people understand the complexities of the health and wellness industry, and make it easier to digest without all the influencer marketing hype or the complexity of the high-level experts.

So I hope you’ll join in on this journey with me to become:

  • A more educated/less confused health consumer

  • A healthier version of you that takes agency in their health

  • A co-companion in contributing to understanding and health literacy

So let’s do this together, and understand WHAT THE WELL is going on!
